Suggestions for your fall clean-up efforts

Though the hot weather coming this week is contrary to what the calendar tells us, Fall is quickly approaching…and it’s a great time to make sure everyone is doing their part to help keep this neighborhood looking great!

Lately, we’ve received a number of emails with feedback/concerns regarding bylaw violations. Here are the TOP 3 OFFENDERS for you all to consider during fall clean-up of your property (violation letters will be sent soon to homeowners):

  1. Mailboxes: The Woods at Grassy Creek dictates mailbox standards for home within the association, as follows (this image shows correct mailbox/standard):
Post: Blunt 4×4 cedar post, custom support, painted BLACK
Mailbox: Medium T2 powder-coated BLACK mailbox
Graphics: Gold Vinyl Graphics on BOTH sides (number and street name) in medium Caxton Font; must be readable

Please make sure your mailbox is up to standard. GOOD NEWS: For those that need a mailbox update, Otto’s will run a once-annual sale…See this flyer for the details and timing.

  1. Garbage cans: Garbage cans must be stored out of sight except for 24 hours before/after trash day.
  2. Vehicle Parking & Trailers: Inoperable vehicles (flat tires, cars on blocks, etc.) and trailers cannot be parked in driveways.

Your Board members are currently working with various vendors through our service bid process and preparing for October’s annual meeting. We’ll look forward to seeing you there and discussing plans for 2020. As always, email woodsatgrassycreek@gmail.com if you have any needs or concerns in the interim.

Update: Pool security will begin Thursday, July 4

Happy Fourth of July WGC residents!

As you may be aware, many HOA members met at the pool this past Monday to discuss issues with the pool and some possible solutions. In addition to some new signage that will be added over time to reiterate key pool rules and regulations, one area of consensus was the desire to seek support of a security guard to monitor pool access to only HOA members with keys and monitor trespassing activities.

We were able to develop a relationship with a local security company this week and will now have a guard on duty as needed to help enforce pool usage/visitor rules.

Thanks again to all that attended Monday and continue to share feedback/concerns via email to woodsatgrassycreek@gmail.com.

Pool answers; plus, come to a meeting at 7:00 p.m., Monday, July 1 to discuss the pool

In the past couple days, there have been countless questions and concerns shared regarding the pool, via email to the board and on the Nextdoor app. For those that would like to discuss your concerns directly, we are holding an emergency meeting at the pool building at 7:00 p.m., Monday, July 1.

With summer weather ramping up and with WGC members eager to finally enjoy this amenity, here are a couple items to address topics in question:

  • WHAT ARE THE POOL HOURS? Pool hours of operation are between 9:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. Sunday through Thursday; and 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Friday night from 9:00 p.m. until close is reserved for HOA members 21 and older.
  • WHAT DO I DO WHEN PEOPLE DON’T HAVE THEIR KEY AND ASK TO BE LET IN? All WGC HOA members in good standing have received a pool key and can access the pool during open hours. If individuals come to the pool and cannot produce a key, DO NOT let them in, regardless of their excuse (i.e., another family member has it, they lost it, etc.). Replacement key cards can be requested by emailing woodsatgrassycreek@gmail.com and paying the associated fee.
  • WHAT DO I DO WHEN PEOPLE ATTEMPT TO ACCESS THE POOL ILLEGALLY, e.g., BY OPENING THE DOOR WITHOUT A KEY OR JUMPING THE FENCE? Access to the pool without a key IS TRESPASSING. If you see this behavior in person, let the individual(s) know that they are actively trespassing, and that you will call the police if they do not cease and desist. If individuals continue to ignore, call the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department’s East Division at (317) 327-6200 to report trespassing. Just make sure you are being courteous when engaging individuals in these situations.
  • WHAT DO I DO IF POOL VISITORS ARE BRING RUDE, SMOKING, USING PROFANITY or OTHERWISE ACTING INAPPROPRIATELY? Every HOA member has the right and responsibility to say something if inappropriate activities are taking place at the pool. If for some reason you feel threatened or bullied as a result of your action, contact the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department’s East Division at (317) 327-6200 to report your concern. Again, ensure you are being courteous when engaging individuals in these situations.
  • SHOULD CHILDREN BE AT THE POOL BY THEMSELVES? Children under age 18 must be accompanied by an adult 18 years of age or older.

The HOA board is having discussions around ways to deter individuals from reaching over the door and entering without a key, as well as other challenges. As soon as a solution is identified, we’ll put it into place. In the meantime, this is a homeowners’ association, which means ALL homeowners in the association must take responsibility make this neighborhood a good place to live and speak up when things aren’t right. We appreciate your partnership to help make the pool a place everyone continues to enjoy for years to come!

As always, if you have further questions or concerns, please email your board at woodsatgrassycreek@gmail.com.

Change in towing policy, effective 6/3/19

Your HOA board members were busy this morning, distributing fliers (see image below) to make you aware of an update to the towing policy, effective Monday, June 3.

As you may know, our WCG covenants outline that street parking between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. is prohibited (Page 3 of the Adoption of the Rules, Regulations and Procedures). The HOA has been tagging cars in violation; however that has been ineffective. Accordingly, our towing company will now tour the divisions in the early morning hours and will tow cars parked on the street. All illegally parked cars will be subject to immediate tow including, but not limited to, cars blocking driveways or in front of fire hydrants.

Towing Flier 6-1-19

Please help us keep our neighborhood safe and beautiful for all to enjoy!

Magnesium Recycling Plant Planned For Our Community

For those who may not be aware there has been significant discussion and concern about a Magnesium recycling plant planned right next to our community.  Around the first of January there was a post on the Nextdoor website talking about the plan and now several discussions that include community leaders has evolved.  It was not widely known that the piece of farm land at 9300 Rawles Ave was zoned over 50 years ago as Industrial. Trinity Metals is trying to purchase the land and build a 60,000 square ft facility that also includes a 60′ smoke stack.  There was a meeting scheduled with the company, city leaders, and residence on January 24th but the meeting was postponed after Trinity Metals had not yet received permits from IDEM.  Look for the community meeting to be rescheduled soon.

This proposal is very concerning  because of environmental, human health, and property value impacts.  Our area is highly residential, there are schools, churches, waterways, and outdoor recreational venues that will be in shadows of the smoke stack.   We encourage all of our neighbors in The Woods at Grassy Creek to keep a close eye on this and make your voice heard.  At some point there will be a Zoning meeting with the city which could be vitally important for us as a community to attend.   Many links to the discussion can be found on Nextdoor.com.  There is also a small amount of information available at the Warren Township Library.  We will try to provide information as it becomes available here on our community website.
